Home/Capabilities/02 — Cargo Engineering & Heavy Lift

Cargo Engineering & Heavy Lift

The engineering of the piece itself: how it is lifted, stowed and secured, how it travels by road to the quay — and which vessel can actually take it.

01 — What is actually being decided

The piece decides the vessel.

A heavy or out-of-gauge piece fails at an interface: the lift, the sea-fastening, the road to the quay. These are settled before a vessel or trailer is nominated.

  • 01Where are the lifting points, and do they match the crane and rigging the vessel or port can provide?
  • 02How is the weight distributed, and does the deck, hold or quay take the point loads?
  • 03Which securing and lashing philosophy holds the piece in the sea state of the route?
  • 04Does the vessel's own gear, stability and deck strength suit the cargo — or only its brochure?
  • 05Which road configuration moves the piece to the quay: lowbed, modular trailer, SPMT or axle lines?
  • 06Where do escorts, permits and temporary reinforcement sit on the critical path?
  • 07Which independent surveys and technical reports will the insurer and the client expect?

02 — Process

From drawing to sea-fastening.

Naval architects, marine surveyors and specialist engineering firms are brought in where the piece requires them; the practice holds the integration and the record.

  1. 01

    Cargo engineering review

Dimensions, weights, centres of gravity, lifting points and transport drawings checked against the vessels and routes in play.

  2. 02

    Lifting concept

Crane requirements, rigging, lifting plans and discharge plans, with contingency resources identified.

  3. 03

    Stowage & securing

Deck loading, stowage concept and lashing philosophy, with stability considerations.

  4. 04

    Road configuration

Trailer or SPMT configuration, axle loads, permits and escorts from factory or port to site.

  5. 05

    Vessel suitability

Gear, deck strength, hold dimensions and certificates reviewed before the fixture is agreed.

  6. 06

    Independent survey

Pre- and post-loading inspection, lifting gear and certificate review, damage analysis where needed.

Contact

Put the move on the desk.

Send the cargo, its origin and destination, and the window you are working to. The first reply sets out whether the move is feasible, the likely corridor, the main exposures and an indicative cost band — before anything is committed.
